In 1949, the founder of our family owned business began installing furnaces and sheet metal air duct systems for the post war, new home construction market. In the 1950’s, our company also became involved in building custom homes and small commercial buildings. Throughout his youth, principal Larry Collins worked alongside his Father, thereby learning all aspects of the residential building trades. Larry took over the business from his father in 1979.
The acquisition of an established residential plumbing & heating company in 1991 caused us to change the direction of our business. That same year, Larry’s wife, Gillian, became active in helping to manage our company. By 1993, our company was no longer involved in any building/remodeling projects, and was totally focused on our recently acquired plumbing & heating business.
In 1997, Larry and Gillian joined a like-minded group of residential service entrepreneurs, who subsequently led to the creation of the Benjamin Franklin Plumbing and One Hour Air Conditioning & Heating franchises. By 2003, we were dual franchisees. In 2004, we purchased a water treatment company, and another small plumbing company. All plumbing related business was performed under our Ben Franklin franchise, and all heating/air conditioning work was performed under our One Hour Air franchise.
We were fortunate when Terry Fisher joined our growing enterprise in early 2008, bringing his technological expertise and business savvy. Gillian, Larry, and Terry, jointly share the day-to-day management of Ben Franklin Plumbing and One Hour Air Conditioning & Heating. Together, we operate two national franchises as a family owned and independently operated enterprise, ensuring quality and professional services to all our plumbing, water treatment, and HVAC clients.
